If I have proof that I was hired and than was asked if I was pregnant and than was told that I did not have the job anymore becasue I said yes can I sue? I have emails as proof. However, this wasn't a 'real' job but a full day time nanny position with a family. But isn't there laws against that too? Her reason for not wanting me was because I told her I would need a week off to give birth and recover even though I told her I have a replacement sitter and she could meet that person. I know I am going to look into this. Thank you.

I know it may seem rediculous but what is ridiculous is that I have been looking for work since the end of May and I know the only reason I get turned down is because I'm pregnant. How do they expect me to support myself and my baby? And so many people get mad that so many people get welfare and various other forms of government assitance but see we I don't want that I just want a JOB! But it seems like I will have to ask for government assistance.

Did you fill out w2's and all that good paper work? If they never filed the paper work you were never hired. Emails are hard to bring up in court because they either have to still be on the hard drive of the other computer or still saved by the domain company. It too easy to create an email to prove wrong doing. Parents have a right to choose whom ever they feel is right for their child. If it was a corporation it would be different and a law suite could be filed.

If she were to take out taxes out of your pay, then yes you could sue. She has to follow all of the same rules as a company.

If she was not going to take taxes out, there would be no proof that you were employed there. Getting paid under the table has major disadvantages.

I am 29 weeks pregnant myself and a weekend nanny. My last day is Saturday, because it is way too hard for me to do it this big and pregnant. I would not recommend you become a nanny if you are pregnant anyway. During the week, I am a legal secretary at a law firm and they did not care that I was pregnant. I have been there for over a year now and when I got pregnant they were so sensitive about me picking file boxes up.

I got my job there through a temp agency called Kelly Services. Try locating your local Kelly Services office and finding an office job. It will be much easier and you will not have to worry about discrimination and it will be easy for you to take time off to have the baby since it is temp work.

I don't think that private employments are covered by the same laws. So no I don't think you would get away with sueing them. It may just stir up more trouble and make it harder on you if you go to look into working for another family.

Nope, she can be as picky as she wants.

You're talking like this was the LAST job available EVER. There are plenty positions that need to be filled out there. You have to work for money .... not find some stupid reason to sue someone.

unfortunately i don't see alot you can do about it, as it wasn't a company i don't think they are held to the laws reguarding discrimination. sorry.. get on your government benefits for as long as it takes until you can support yourself through a job and pay taxes to support other people in your same situation.. you might even look into getting financial aid to attend college while your on those benefits and get a really good job when your finished!

I don't know if private parties have to rely on that law, but businesses certainly do. It is discrimination. Actual businesses can't even ask if you are pregnant, but you would actually have to consult a lawyer to see if private parties have to follow those rules but I suspect not.

Why don't you just take care of some kids at your house, get your daycare license? It doesn't make any sense to me for you to get paid to watch someone else's kids while yours is in daycare. Maybe you're not seeing the blessing in disguise. If you didn't get the job, it wasn't meant to be. Watch kids at your house so you can stay home with your baby, it will need you the 1st year more than ever.

" private employment" isnt bound by employment rules as companies are, a private employer can fire you or chose not to keep you on without reason...........If thy get mad your gona and not alot you can do about it.

and you have to becarefull with jobs like that too you have to make sure they are paying into taxes on your behalf. Alot of families wont.

Heck they can fire you if you disagree with them...... about ANYTHING

Although they could say you couldnt perform some of the duties that might be required for the job, if they say something like running or lifting heavy kids.
