A PATA laptop drive has the same signals as a PATA desktop. And the same for SATA drives. The problem is that the connectors are different. If you find a converter then it should work.
Or you can get a 2.5 inch drive enclosure and use it as an external USB drive.
However, laptop drives are small (in capacity), slow and expensive. Why not buy a bigger and faster 3.5 inch drive that will plug straight in?

The Power contacts and data ribbon cables are not compatible unless you get an adapter. Depending on the Hard Drive you have in the laptop. Only a couple have adapters, most do not.

Depends on the type of hard drive.
Most laptops now days and before have a different connector for the ribbon connection.
You need a adapter to go from the hard drive to your PATA/SATA on your desktop

Yes, if you buy an external hard drive enclosure ($20) that connects to your USB port. There are a number of systems but you will probably need a 2.5'' hard drive enclosure.

that's not a remember of putting it in with the main suitable adaptor that's a question of why you will choose a 5400 rpm SATA I clearance HDD in purely 250gb. you will get lots better for some money extra.

No, it is very different. If you wanted to move documents, get a thumb drive to move your data.
