Ashteroth and Baal both predate the Hebrew and Christian religions. They were not the Gods of people of the woods and fields.

A hint: BAAL was a fertility God and the principal deity of the canaanite pantheon. The name has a generic meaning of "Lord Master Owner and Protector." Many States and free cities of the period before the Hebrew invasion, called their specific Gods, Baal.
Statues of Ashteroth are found by archaeologists even in Isrealite sites.

One last Hint: Ashteroth is of the Moon and Ba'al is of the Sun.

as in every type of worship/custom, some people do it with awareness and some people just do it because it's fun or it's the done thing. in ancient times the gods were part of people's lives, they were there all the time in everything people did... but even then there were people who went to the house of ashtoret to worship and promote the fertility of the world, and there were those who went there just because it was a fun cathouse.
so today, a farmer sowing his field, or a woman who goes to the sperm bank are doing the "practice" of the fertility god-goddes worship with the "proper" intent, but without the "worship" part, the representation of them being the test tube or the sowing machine and not the figurines.
someone going to a strip club or any other s_ex service is doing the act but with no fertility purpose behind it.
someone doing a nature ritual of the god and goddes, for instance, can be seen as performing the more spiritual aspect of the baal/ashtoret worship.

on a different level, one might think that some movie actors n(or other celebs), whose personal lives are followed by millions around the world and who are seen as s_ex symbols by same millions can be also seen as effigies of baal/ashtoret

so it's hard to say, because the worship of those gods is no longer "organized" and main stream, although different aspects of it have remained.

i personally am more worried about the ongoing sacrifice of so many young people to the moloch (molech) that's still going on around the world.

That would be Jesus and the Holy Ghost. Or Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Or an uncorrupt politician and a logical religious conservative.

Or any other two beings that have never existed.

Well they were both pagan gods.... And I assume that pagans look at their pagan belief.. In the same manner that we are worship our God today.. With the only difference is that Our God is real while their god was made out of wood or rock...............................................................................................
