For all of the reasons above, yes, closing your windows would be best.
However, you should also shut off your air conditioner/heater... it'll draw in outside air and circulate smoke/debris throughout your home.
If you think the smell of smoke is tough to get rid of, you do NOT want to try to rid your home of soot!
Hope this helps,

You mean like a fire in the forest? Yes, I would close the windows. Everything in your house will smell like smoke. Not that that's a bad thing....it's kind of a nice smell, don't you think? I don't think it will be really bad unless the smoke is REALLY close and the wind is blowing in just the right direction. You might get a faint smokey smell on everything.

That depends on whether you like the smell of smoke or not. If you enjoy smoke, then no, open your windows and breathe in the goodness. However, if you don't want your house to smell like smoke, then yes, it would seem logical to close the windows and keep the smoke out.

Yup! It can cause lung irritation and the debris can carry inside the home and settle on the fabrics coating them and breaking down the fabrics which can be expensive to replace.
I guarantee U this....if I smelled smoke in the forest, I would leave and not come back until the smoke cleared. to heck with the windows!

Close the windows otherwise the carpets, window furnishings, couch and fabrics will absorb the ordor.
If they do get in, you will need activated charcoal to remove the ordor. It isn't an easy order to remove.
Even if the smell of the burning wood smells good now - it won't in a month or longer.

I wouldn't think you'd have to ask this question. You certainly can't breathe with the window open, could you? In fact if it's this bad, why don't you leave until the danger is over?

Yes, you don't want you house to absorb the smokey smell. It will get into the fabrics that are in your home.
