I'm studying acting and have been in contact with other aspiring actors. What bothers me is that a lot of them kind of already have a very dry perspective of looking at movies and live performances. They tend to have a lot of self-confidence and an arrogant air to judge anything else that they don't participate in. I don't see things like that, and sometimes feel out of place because I don't pick at things like that. I love to enjoy movies and get attached to them. I do like to see myself as the character and what I would say or do to change the plot. I guess, I like to believe more than criticize. I'm just not that technical about it. For me acting is about passion and connecting with another human being.
So, am I thinking the wrong way?

Not at all. You are thinking like an actor, not like a poseur.

If I had a dime for every "actor" that gave me that line of pretentious garbage when I was starting out, I would not ever have to work again. Follow your gut, keep an open mind, learn learn learn, and do not listen to those (invariably) black-clad sneering no-talents.

P.S. : Thank you for actually asking an Acting question on this Acting forum.

Absolutely not! Maybe you should find a different class if that's where these people are :-) Sounds like you have a great disposition and you definitely don't need these people bringing you down. I would definitely start checking out different places or a different group to hang with at least some of the time. These people sound like the ones you'll find at midnight screenings criticizing everything now and five years from now they'll be exactly the same. Go enjoy life and every role for it's possibilities and don't let them ruin it for you!

The key here is you say you're in contact with "aspiring" actors. Once you spend more time with people with real experience and are actually working, you'll see the arrogance and phony stuff disappear. Real pros are very passionate.

God no! You're not thinking like a diva, you're thinking like a person. It's totally OK to think like that when you're an actress. People who think the wrong way are people who just want attention. THAT IS NOT WHAT ACTING IS ABOUT! To act is to tell a story, and becomes someone else in order to do that.
