yea i was lookin to shop fo laptops too so i came across the same issue. everyone has different opinions depending on what they chose. BUT, in my experience, everyone i've known that bought an HP had problems, so avoid dat unless u like the price.
I went with a Dell, which is working pretty good so far, and you can customize what features you want in it.
but i heard top of the line for laptops right now is Toshiba
so i'd say Toshiba or Dell. good luck.

For a **very** steep price, Alienware. And by steep im talking 4000 USD plus. For a more affordable option, HP and then Dell. Hp offers the best hardware at a lower price than most other competitors but Dell has the best tech support of all brands. Also, Acer is a newer company so you can get good systems for lower prices as they try to become another consumer computer giant. But for the average person, HP all the way.

Next to that would be HP, Toshiba... Dell is crap and ****.
Unless you want to take a trip back to the stone age and tell your grand kids this was the operating system of the old then go Apple or Linux.
Alienware is awesome too, however it's a desktop replacement so it will be heavy. You're not a college student are you?
What will you be using this laptop for?
