I have a small baby nad the California weather is waaaaayyy to hot. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the room cool? We have a celing fan (but it doesn't throw much air). We also have a window fan (for nighttime only since the night air is fresher). We don't have much money ... so we need those less expensive ways to cool the room. Please - my son and I have tried soooo many things ... and no avail.

Try getting a 5,000 BTU window unit air-conditioner that is energy effecient. You will be surprised how little it will be for electricity.

keep the window closed and blinds drawn during the day with a fan running... try getting a "room darkening" blind or for sumthing inexpensive maybe pin up a thick blanket (maybe a baby blanket to "match". The thickness and darkness of the window cover will help keep the hot out... Also when the baby is in there... but a small fan near the crib on low to cool the crib area even if the room is warmer the baby wont be.. just dont set the fan too high for the baby

U might try to get some of the plastic roll stuff that you can cut to fit the window and spray on soapy water to make it stick. It is mirrored looking to the outside.

It reflects the sun, and you cannot see in the room from the outside but can see out of it from the inside. Might expect around $30 a roll. U can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Try using a fan to circulate the air into the room to keep the heat from heating the room up.

this is going to sound weird, but open a window and face the window fan facing outside. It will blow the hot air out and keep the cool air in.

I read that from a reliable source somewhere in a magazine.

There are a few options you can try without spending any money. Does your house have AC? If so, make sure the vents are open. If not, make sure any electronics in the room are turned off when not in use. They can produce unwanted heat. Also, keep the door open whenever possible, as this will allow improved airflow into the room. Hope this helps.

Have you tried the tower fans that sit on the floor and oscillate? It has been extremely hot here and I use my ceiling fan in conjunction with my tower fan and I literally have to put a quilt on at night because it is chilly.

I got mine at Wal Mart for $39.00 and I LOVE IT!

place a plastic gal jug in the freezer filled with water, have 2 available
when it has frozen place it in front of a small fan [in a container] blowing across it, towards the bed.

Buy a cheerful comforter for your bed. Pick a colour or pattern that enhances the colour of the walls and floor.
