It tries to suck more air form a cooler area in the car. Most of these intakes are just for show. Save up for a turbo or super-charger kit.

Cold Air Intake or CAI is a system designed to bring in outside air to supply the engine rather than hot under hood air. The cooler the air the better. Most vehicle makers have used this system for years drawing air from the front or side. Most of the performance CAI systems will flow more air than stock systems and might be useful on a moderately/highly modified engine, but most seem to sold for looks. One down side of CAI is some have been known to pick up water resulting in engine damage( stock and aftermarket) if air intake is too low.

Rikard tried sooooooo hard to explain it, but failed lol. It works partly like he said by drawing cool air or COLD air either works from a outside source away from the engine that is hot and has higher temps. The cold/cool air combines with the fuel and makes a DENSER atomization and yields a greater power potential. Make sense now?

the cold air intake works by taking in air from outside rather than from the engine which is hot the colder the air the more dense it is more dense air has more oxygen and then more oxygen so more fuel more air and fuel more power.
