I have searched the Internet high and low for a deal. I am in the Chicago area and I am looking for a cable/Wi-Fi bundle for me and 2 other house-mates. All 3 of us want the cable and 2 of us want the Wi-Fi so we can work out of our rooms on our laptops and not have to share 1 computer with a jacked up DSL connection. We are students and it wouldn't be fair to make the other wait, thus the Wi-Fi.

We tried Comcast and they ripped us off and the service wasn't that good. Any other places we can try?

Any ideas where we can look in our area that won't strap us too much. I am looking to have a 3-way split of no more than $20 for each of us for the bill. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

If you have a DSL connection, you don't actually need to get a cable internet connection for Wi-fi, all you need is a wireless router, that you can get for about $30-$50 from any computer/electronics store.

By using a router, you can split up your DSL connection so that anyone with access to it can access the internet.

If you are using a Dial-up type DSL on the other hand, you may want to consider upping to an "always-on" type DSL connection. I use AT&T Yahoo's DSL connection (and I have a wireless router too) which costs $20 a month on top of the monthly charge for the AT&T landline, or you can ask whoever your phone company is for their deals on the "always-on" DSL connection.

Cable is a little bit faster than DSL in terms of connection speeds for the internet, but for regular browsing, assuming you aren't downloading tons of movies or music, I think DSL internet is better value for money (cable can set you back $50 a month vs $20-$25 for DSL).

Don't concern yourself about the Wifi -- just look for the best broadband option -- DSL, Cable, Fiber -- find the one that has the speed you need at the best price. Then after you're subscribed, go to your local Best Buy and buy a cheap wireless router -- plug it in a voila!

the cheapest nowadays seems to be AT&T DSL for $10/month. This is not advertised, so you may want to to call and ask for it specifically. It should be the "naked dsl" option.

who is your ISP on DSL? I am a DSL field tech. If you shoot me an email I may be able to help with the connection.
