I HAVE BEEN AT THIS JOB FOR 5 YEARS. THE OWNER CALLS ME TODAY TO TELL ME THAT SHE CAN NO LONGER WORK HER 5 HOURS A WEEK. YEAH THATS RIGHT 5 HOURS.SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE WANTS TO OPEN A SECOND BUSINESS WITH HER BROTHER SO SHE WONT HAVE TIME TO WORK THE STORE ANYMORE. SHE BASICALLY IS TELLING ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DO IT. I TOLD HER THAT IF I COULDNT DO IT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN? SHE SAYS THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO SELL THE STORE!! ARE U KIDDING ME SELL YOUR 8 YEAR PROFITABLE BUSINESS CUZ YOU CANT WORK 5 HOURS A WEEK!! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO . I AM LOSING IT. MY COWORKER AND I WORK SO HARD TO KEEP THAT STORE RUNNING AND WE JUST CANT DO ANYMORE HOURS.SHE HAS TOTALLY PISSED ME OFF. SOME ADVICE ANYONE? PLEASE.

Why not see about buying the store?? There are lots of small biz loans out there!!! Be your OWN boss. You could partner with yourco-worker if you wanted. Think about it!

If the business is truly profitable, she probably won't sell it. And even if she does, there is a good chance you could continue working there for the new owner. Many empoyers use the threat of selling or closing a business as a way to intimidate employees into doing what they want them to do.
Sounds like bullying to me, and an empty threat. Stand up for yourself, say you can't work the extra hours, and let her do what she will do.

1. Ask for a percentage of the profits. That way you get paid for helping her keep the business open.
2. Ask for a raise.
3. Find a new job.
