I'm not a mechanic or anything but my uncle had the same problem with his Dodge truck, He changed his battery and still no result, He needed to clean up the terminals to the battery. If the connection to the battery was good, it would not shut off when you disconnect the cables. If it were your alternator, then the car would die when u disconnect the positive battery terminal from the battery. Try cleaning up the terminals and see what happens.

The Alternator and Voltage Regulator on your dodge should be one piece.
Have the alternator bench tested and I'll bet the diodes are bad.
The new battery is probably needing a charge as well.
Peace

It seems like you have a two fouled problem. First your alternator appears not to be putting out the voltage it is intended to put out. You also seem to be have a short somewhere in your electrical wiring that is draining the battery.

Dodge has all sorts of electrical problems. The engineer who designed the car should be tarred and featherd. Yeah most likely it's your alternator, but I'm sure something else probably killed the alternator.

in a working laptop or laptop controlled automobile, whilst the secret's became off, the battery continues to be in use to keep the reminiscence interior the cpu and the radio. its a slow drain yet in approximately 3 weeks of little need, it's going to be stressful to start. in case you do no longer plan on using this automobile usually i could recommend which you detect a waft charger, in fact it rather is a battery charger which will slowly fee the battery to maintain an entire batt,

most likely try chargeing the battery with a charger overnite the drive it to a auto zone or a store similar and ask them to check it out they will do this free of charge

putting a volt meter accross the battery while the car is idle and compare the voltage when the car is running, the battery is 12v when the cars running it could go up to 14v, if it doe's look for another reason.,

maybe it is your alternator or you automatic voltage regulator..
your engine dies because your car might had the EFI or the electronic fuel injector, the EFI wont run if there is no battery thats why your engine dies.
