you will be roaming in the Bahammas. You will pay the roaming fees. Plus air time if you do it during peak.
Your friend will receive with no problem.

Your best bet is to either check with your service provider's customer care (Verizon) or check the website. In the search box, enter International Roaming. Once you do that you should be able to check the coverage in The Bahamas as well as see the Voice roaming rate as well as the Messaging roaming rate. Your friend will receive your text messages just as if you were in the US w/ him. You would be the only person incurring extra charges. It can get costly while Roaming Internationally so be cautious of when your minutes are used out there. A lesser known fact about roaming is that when you receive a Voice mail, you are still charged for a minute of that roaming airtime, regardless of answering the phone. If you want to avoid any charges such as that you can turn your phone off and while it is disconnected to the network, you won't be charged for voice mails left. The last thing about roaming Internationally is that when checking your voice mail, you will have to dial your own # to get it. Interrupt your voice mail greeting w/ the * key, and enter your password for your voice mail. Check w/ Verizon to see if they have an International Toll Free Roaming number you can call in on while you are roaming in case you have any troubles.

Even if you have unlimited texting it's still extra to text while Internationally roaming.
