If the ball is it at the shortstop too high for him or her to jump and catch it. Is it legal to throw their glove in the air to knock it down to prevent a double play?

Well, he can, but it's a pretty bad decision because if the ball is touched by the removed glove, the batter is awarded three bases.

If the glove misses the ball, no problem.
But it is a three base award if the glove hits the ball, and the player can try to reach home. 7.05c

The award is

"c) Three bases, if a fielder deliberately throws his glove at and touches a fair ball. The ball is in play and the batter may advance to home base at his peril."

And before anybody asks , a thrown glove touching a thrown ball is a 2 base penalty.

nope...a player cannot remove his glove to stop a ball from going past him...

i dont remember what the call is for this offense...i believe its an automatic Ground Rule Double....
