Assuming you are referring to the Norman Conquest, the order is this:

William I (the Conqueror)
William II
Henry I
Stephen
Henry II
Richard I
John
Henry III
Edward I
Edward II
Edward III
Richard II
Henry IV
Henry V
Henry VI
Edward IV
Edward V (never crowned)
Richard III
Henry VII
Henry VIII
Edward VI
Mary I
Elizabeth I
James I
Charles I
*The Commonwealth w/ Oliver Cromwell*
Charles II
James II
William III & Mary II
Anne
George I
George II
George III
George IV
William IV
Victoria
Edward VII
George V
Edward VIII (never crowned)
George VI
Elizabeth II (who is directly descended from William I)

The first monarch of the whole of Great Britain was James I of England who was also James VI of Scotland.
The sequence is then
Charles I - Oliver Cromwell (Republican not a monarch) - CharlesII - James II - William III and Mary - Anne - George I - George II - George III - George IV - William IV - Victoria - EdwardVII - George V - Edward VIII - George VI - Elizabeth.

Note that the present queen Elizabeth is only considered to be Elizabeth II in England as Scotland was never ruled by Elizabeth I.

I see others have fallen into the trap of confusing England with Britain.

Please explain what you mean by "describe" the lineage.

Also, how far back do you want to go? Until fairly recently, Britain was not a unified country and, all in all, there have been one thousand kings and queens in Britain.

Since 1066 there have been only 43 rulers of England.

The best book on the subject is:
The Mammoth Book of British Kings and Queens
by Mike Ashley
Carroll & Graf Publishers, Inc.

Everyone who is interested in British history should get this book.
