Wasn't Silent Witness around before CSI?

and before that you had Quincey...so nothing is original.
But it does seem that when something gets successful its copied to extinction.

Criminal Minds is not a Crime Scene show--it's an FBI show, where the characters study and profile homicidal maniacs and serial killers.
Bones, I see no point to that show. David Boreneaz should have stuck with Angel. (Yes, I'm still waiting for some closure to the series; but I swore he said he was done with Angel because he wanted to try the big screen. So much for that idea.)
Without a trace--I think that's a mixture between a cop show and a crime scene show. I kind of like that one, but isn't it the same thing as Cold Case? Or vice versa?
Never heard of Kidnapped, but that sounds like Standoff--where the same thing happens in every episode. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't make it a bad show--I just find it highly unlikely that every day/every week there is a hostage situation or kidnapping.... Then again, what do I know!
So, IMHO I'd honestly say there are just too many CSI's, and that Horatio scares me.. Long Live the Original!

It really depends on how you look at it. I agree that the original CSI is superior to the other CSI shows. But some of the other shows have benefits as well--it's really about the characters and the story more than the topic. There have always been a lot of crime shows--they've simply gotten more sophisticated and technical.
I come at this from a slightly different perspective. I gave up virtually all television for three years. Watched very little--maybe an hour or two a week, if that. (I did this to find time to write books, and the only time was to dump television!) When I started watching again, I found I was watching more for characters than anything else.
I enjoy Law and Order, but my favorite is SVU. I can live without the others, but the characters on SVU are fantastic. I recently downloaded NUMB3RS on my iPod and I'm enjoying it because of the characters--otherwise the stories are beginning to get a little repetitive. Though I'll admit I liked the first season better than the second because they swapped out some characters. I didn't like the beginning of Criminal Minds (Season one), but by the end of the show, I felt the cast had come together (except from one annoying character who I heard wasn't in season two.) So, I ordered the DVD of season two.
The thing is, there's so much on television that I just don't care to watch, and since I like crime shows I'll pretty much watch any of them.
That said, I thought HEROES was one of the most original and fun shows out last year. I downloaded it to my iPod and watched the whole season in a couple weeks. Maybe I was just tired of crime shows!

well some of them actually stem from law and order not CSI.
Personally I am a fan of CSI and Law and Order. The only shows I like that are kind of knock offs of those are Cold case and Without a Trace.
I don't really take an interest in all the other shows, but I am sure there are some people who enjoy them.

I totally love CSI - the other shows are definately not better though I do love Bones
And the Bones books have been around longer that the show, maybe even longer than CSI so I don't know if you can count that!

Yes I think CSI copycatted itself almost to death. Too many chiselled hunks and ex-supermodels bending over a microscope. I'd like to bend them over too but I digress. Is Gary Sinese wooden or what and does he ever do 'smile'? Caruso is just hopeless and Petersen is OK but again is not exactly a bundle of laughs. Personally I enjoy NCIS which I find way above the others in terms of characterisation, humour and good acting. Cote de Pablo is outstanding as well as phwoar material. Gibbs leads excellently and smacks heads without mercy. All six leads are very good and the scripts and asides are all spot on mostly.

The only CSI show of the three that I like is CSI:Miami. I think the original and NY suck big time! But, as for Criminal Minds, it is a GREAT show and is nothing like CSI.

Yes, I don't think there should have even been any spin-offs. And for that matter I think CSI is getting old, the good writers have left and we're left with people who don't know the characters and write things that make no sense to the character's behavior.

Yes definitely too many inferior copies. I just do not like David Caruso anyway , with his whispering voice. Apart from that , the copies do not come near to the original in quality.
