You need to contact the child support office in which your original order is filed. They will try to collect directly, but if he does not cooperate the child support office will have you fill out UIFSA papers to have Illinois enforce your order.

It is based on the state that the custodial parent and child lives in solely. There are interstate cooperatives that work together to be able to enforce child support orders across state lines, but it takes you taking the initiative to raise a big enough stink about it to get it to happen. It also helps if you can get the Father's place of work, social, last known address, etc. I'm a single mother of three and Pre-law student. I've been down this road many times, and my children's fathers both live out of state. I had to fight to get any type of motion filed because I lived in a state that would not cooperate with interstate mediators. However, in the long run, I had to serve him myself with the garnishment papers (by paying his local sheriff's dept a fee). It is a big pain in the ass, but its worth it when you know that your child is better off for it. I don't touch my children's child support at all, it goes straight into a savings fund for their college, car, etc. Fight for your children...that always seemed to be my best motivator!!

i believe that you can ony file in the state in which the child lives...in this case, with you. It always goes by the child's position, not the fathers

To the best of my knowledge...only in the state the child resides.

confident, your ex legally has the nicely suited to record for toddler help from you in California and it will commence popping out of your paycheck in Michigan (or everywhere you reside). My ultimate advice is to easily shop making the money as is needed by ability of the settlement between you and your ex. That way, she would be able to no longer have a reason to record for toddler help "out of spite" or for the different reason. sturdy success!
