An SHG is a sonohystogram, which is essentially an ultrasound done while saline is injected via catheter into the uterus. I've had two of these done, the first caused some minor cramping, the second caused a bit more severe cramping for me.

There is something called an HSG as well... not sure if you are mixing up the letters, LOL, so I'll explain what that is, too. An HSG is a hysterosalpingogram, in which a dye is injected via catheter into the cervix while an x-ray is done to check the fallopian tubes. I had one done when I had the Essure procedure done, to make sure that my tubes were indeed blocked b/c of the Essure. The procedure itself did cause some minor cramping for me, and then later I had severe cramping.

If you are having either the HSG or the SHG, take some ibuprofen beforehand as a precaution. You'll be fine. :) Good luck to you.

Two of my very good friends have had one. One said it was no big deal, the other said it was very painful. I guess it depends on the person! Hopefully, yours will be a piece of cake. Good luck!
