even if they are stupid things like, sit on your head, turn around three times, tap you nose and sing the hokey pokey... ok you get the drift...

I came across a thing the other day called tct or tft or something, which invloves tapping into acupunture points in your body and it is meant to calm you down etc..

Anyone have any mottos or ideas on what to do when ALL else is failing?

Kira,
U ask the best questions. And i always know u R sincere. So i will answer with as many sincere possibilities as i have discovered.
I listen to ambient music, no specific melody, no words. Close my eyes and physically turn an object in my hands that will be the only thing i concentrate on. Some people call it meditation.
My 3 favorite objects are a small (one inch tall) marble egg, a larger stone that is carved to look and feel like an egg but heavier, and a real egg shell--make holes at both ends and blow the contents out (It may take a couple of tries). This is probably the best object because it is light, natural (not man-made), and really allows me to think of nothing. In a way, an egg is like a zero and the purpose of the whole thing is to give your mind a vacation, even if u R in a closet or I've seen really skilled people who could zone out in a crowd, drown out all the noise around them, and just send their mind on a pleasant vacation. No drugs required. Good luck.
Mottoes--If it doesnt kill u, it makes u stronger.
It is the weak who are cruel. Only the strong R kind. (Or, if u prefer, only the strong have the gift of being kind.)
Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and u cry alone.
ALWAYS Smile. It makes people wonder what u R thinking about. (It also causes the body to emit better chemicals than frowning or, worst of all, getting angry.)
We are all here to make each other happy. What pleasure does someone get when that person makes others unhappy?
IF U CUT SOMEONE DOWN, U R TRYING TO BRING THEM DOWN TO THE LOW WAY U FEEL. Thus, the phrase, getting even.
If i want 2 B happy, i must make others happy. Everything u do comes back to u--the laws of karma.
Good luck being happy. I think it was Lincoln who said, "Most ppl R about as happy as they make up their mind 2 B"

I just think of all the good things about my life. And no I am not rich in the material sense of the word. I have 3 grown children, 6 grandchildren & a husband, whom I love & am loved in return. You can make a list of all of the wonderful things that you have going for you.
Some other things I do when I feel glum: Get some bubbles & blow them! Take a long soak in a warm bubble bath, eat a little chocolate, go for a walk, play with the dogs, read poetry, read a book, play a pc game, write, visit my grandchildren, make love to my husband, look for jokes to make me laugh on the internet or someplace else. My husband has a few joke books that are great. Listen to soothing or cheerful music. Watch a great movie that I know will lift my mood. Buy a bunch of balloons & have fun sending them off & watching them disappear. Buy a bag of balloons & blow them all up & have fun doing whatever you want with them. Put faces on them, toss them , pop them whatever you feel like just do it.
Plan a spontaneous & simple party! Invite all your friends that you haven't seen in awhile. Have fun party planning! Go for a balloon ride or a horse back ride or go roller skating or to the movies. Just for the fun of it dress up in a halloween or clown costume & go into Walmarts! It's fun to see peoples reactions. While in Walmarts, in your costume, buy a bunch of balloons & take them over to the pediatric ward of a hospital or another section of the hospital just to brighten someone elses day or visit a nursing home.

I have recently gained tremendous benefit, by practicing "detachment". It is a state of mind, where you go into "observer mode", i.e., disengage from the soap opera, and melodrama that life often is. This third party perspective is very peaceful and pleasant. It is the anthesis of being reactionary.

I regret, I can't tell you exactly how this is done. I can't always do it. However, I have gone into this state spontaneously in the past; you probably have also. Please let me know if you are interested. If you are, I will gather up some on-line references and send them to you.

The only limit to positive thinking is what you allow yourself to put in the way.

for instance, I'm much shorter than all my friends, who btw are all younger than me by a year plus, and they are obnoxious about it, they call me miraclegro, make a point of looking down at me when they talk, the whole enchilada. I could choose to let them bother me, let my small frame limit me in athletics and stuff, get mad and try to find new friends, or whatever, but because I realize that God gave me a body just the right size for me, and nothing my friends say can change that, I can be happy and optimistic about the whole thing.

putting things into perspective - there are many people out there with SERIOUS problems, like refugees from wars, people with incurable diseases, people living under repressive regimes. Our lives are too short to worry about problems that we have usually created for ourselves.
To wallow in self pity and not take positive action to resolve a situation is not a very good trait to have.
Identification of the problem is usually the key to solving something pretty quickly - analytical thinking is the way.

When things fail... and noone is hurt or dead... then it's ok... you'll live another day to figure it out, you keep on trying if it's worth it. Take time away from the obstacle and evaluate the pro's and con's from accomplishing it... if it's not worth it then move on.

When I'm feeling down I like to watch my favorite movie (preferably a happy movie) or if I'm at work or driving, I plug in my ipod and put on my favorite music (even if its sad music it helps me), my dad likes to watch Andre Rieu dvd's that he has to help calm himself down or sometimes I like to go for a run (or walk,,,gives you time to think and gets some of that built up energy out of you),,,thats some of the stuff I can think of,,,Hope it helps you!!!

It could always get worse...I could be dead. That would be much worse than any other scenario I can imagine, at least i think so (I do not have proof).
