In the article "First tentative steps," Rodney Brooks is quoted as saying, "My belief is that we, people, are machines. So in principle, I see no reason why we can't build a robot that is as capable as a human being." Compare that statement with the two remaining articles, other readings you have done, and your own views. Discuss your position relative to the possibility of machines becoming equal to humans.

We have already created and manufactured many contraptions which are far superior to ourselves in terms of physical strength and durability. The purpose of this is to amplify and protect our own vulnerable physical presence.

The reason we have not created an entity with our level of satient intelligence is because we haven't needed to, and because it is a very high level of intelligence comparatively speaking to everything else around us.

When we can do that, and combine that intelligence with the more durable physical form we've already developed...mankind will end up on the endangered species list.

Well, actuall yes, we are machines. Electrical/chemical machines. We will build robots that will be equal to humans. It will take time. We do not know how to build robots as complex as humans yet. Remember, life has been on this planet for billions of years. We only started building robots about 60 years ago. In the future, robots will be everywhere; especially space. Nobody cares if a robot crashes on a planet.
