the most common way is to have a sizeable lead off third, and to get a good jump, then have the good fortune for the catcher to miss the pitch, or for the pitch to go wild.
another (and much more exciting way) is for the offense to attempt a double steal. With runners at the corners, the man on first starts for second and hopes that the catcher will try to throw him out, while the man on third goes about halfway to home. The hope is that the catcher will try to get the man on first out, and the defensive player covering second won't be able to get the throw back to home before the runner. Usually in a double steal situation, the defense will allow the man on first to steal, but hold the man on third to prevent a run from scoring.
The other way I've seen it done was on a dropped third strike (if the catcher drops the third strike, the batter can run to first as if he hit the ball, but in the pros, the batter usually just walks off the field without trying for the base, and is called out for leaving the field of play) and the catcher throws to first, allowing the man on third to come in for a run.

I think you should hire a private detective, some one who can devote more time to solving this case for you then the police can. The P.I. can follow you around at random times to see if you are being followed by anyone else, a P.I. is also not encumbered by some of the "rules and regulations" that the police are and he may be able to be a bit more aggressive in his investigation. Whether it is the guy who was seeing your daughter or not, you should come clean about how you lied when you had him arrested, tried and convicted of a crime he DID NOT commit! That wasn't a very honorable thing to do on your part! I understand you just wanted to protect your daughter, but you made this guy pay a price that was just too high for that, and for what he really did! You ruined his life over something (in hind sight) that wasn't really all that harmful. Simply because you did not like him. For shame! However, this doesn't warrant death threats and malicious aggravation on his part (if it is him). There are ways with in the realm of legality he could take to set the record straight.

Just like they would steal 2nd or 3rd. The only reason you don't see it very often is because the catcher doesn't need to make a throw, just tag the runner. Generally for a steal of home plate to be successful you would need one or multiple of the following: the pitcher isn't paying attention to the runner, the pitcher is extremely slow to the plate, the runner has above average speed, the runner gets an amazing jump/leaves before the pitcher commits to going home.

It is by no means an easy thing to do. I've done it a few times. The best scenario is with a big lefty with a slow delivery from the stretch and a large right handed batter to block the catchers view. Get a walking lead meaning you never actually stop and as the pither delivers runnnn yo @$$ off. If they don't pay attention the way they should u could actually be standing up if timed properly.
If the catcher drops it or it gets passed him its a wild pitch or passed ball which does not qualify as a stolen base.

It's very easy to steal home plate. If the catcher misses the ball and your a fast runner you can score. Even if the pitcher is not paying attention or takes to long to throw the ball you steal home plate.

I've stolen home. Twice in one game.
It usually involves catching the pitcher and catcher off guard or inattentive. I had the best luck watching the catcher and going when he was looking in the stands while the pitcher was walking back up the mound after getting the ball back from the catcher. Obviously if the 3rd baseman is playing off the bag you can get a better lead. Don't move quickly when the pitcher or catcher are watching. They almost never expect you to run. Use that to your advantage.

it is definitley possible....
lets say on a left handed pitcher who is pitching from the wind up....lets say he has forgotten to check the runner at THIRD (HUGE MISTAKE) since he is in the wind up as soon as he starts his motion he cant stop...he has to go home with it...if if the player on third gets a rather large lead...and as soon as the pitcher moves...the guy can go...all he has to do is make it close at home and he's got a chance of being safe...
Also..i believe if you get in a pickle between 3rd and Home and you end up scoring (not due to an error) then that is considered a stolen base since no errors occured...
( ALSO...It is not considered a stolen base if the catcher misses the ball drops the ball or if pitcher drops the ball or if the pitcher makes a wild pitch...basically..its considered a stolen base if no error occured)

It's the element of surprise. No one can be expecting it and you need a fast runner like Jackie Robinson in the 1955 World Series. If it's expected, it's impossible. Also the pitcher needs to have a slow motion towards home and also must be in the wind-up and not the stretch.

If a theres a wild pitch that gets away from the catcher and it goes far away enough for the person to steal.
