The Mayan calender and the Book of changes (I Ching) say it will be a very bad day for humanity.
Not to mention the black hole in the middle of our universe will be directly between the earth and the sun. Are we all doomed?

Apophis will approach earth

Days when I actually watch the national news for more than 2 seconds, I think to myself that it couldn't come soon enough! However, as almost everyone here has pointed out - nothing special about that day.

And no black hole is anywhere NEAR 5 years away from Earth - it would already be in our solar system gobbling up Saturn! Perhaps you misread that our sun will be between us and the black hole at the center of our galaxy? Even so - that means nothing. It happens every November when the Sun is between Scorpio and Sagitarius - that's where the center of the galaxy is. Hasn't blown us up yet, and won't ever.

If God's out there, looking down on wicked, wicked mankind, getting ready to end the world, I'm sure he'd pick a different day than that if for no other reason than the Bible says nobody knows when that day will be, not even Jesus. Why spoil his fun by letting it look like someone knew? ;)

Boy, have you got a pile of steaming nonsense gathered here!

The "black hole in the middle of our universe" is nowhere near us, and won't come anywhere even close in the next 5½ years. If it was close enough to arrive between us and the sun in the next five years, we'd already know about it, because it would already be ripping things out of our solar system. Fuggedaboutit.

As far as the Mayan Calendar and the I Ching -- fuggedaboutit.

Dec 12, 2012 will be another day just like all the ones before it, and all the ones to follow.

I beleive that the Mayan calender ends in 2012, but I don't think it is bad. According to their Culture it is the end But also a beginning. We don't know for sure there are no Mayans left to ask.
As far as the I Ching, the " Chinese Book of Change" I don't remember that as being in the Book. Both of these cultures do not use the Western Gregorian Calender that we use. Please Stop trying to scare people.

The Maya Calendar will end on Dec. of 2012. But it doesn't mean the "End of the World", "Armageddon" or "Doomsday". These false prophesy or world's end were created and only manipulated by highly institutionalized systems such as science, religious and philosophical sectors to scare people and so they can take advantage of the situation until such time. There will be some natural disasters in the next few years that will result to devastating number of deaths before 2012 such as earthquake, flood from different part of the world caused by polar shift, but will not annihilate the entire human race.

The Ending of Maya Calendar only means that 2012 is the end of something old and the beginning of something new. Should you look at it in a rational way of thinking, it means the end the evolution of human consciousness and the beginning of unconscious evolution of mankind. The Golden Age will end poverty, intercontinental war and nations’ differences. It will be the beginning of world full of meaning and order. Unfortunately, not of all us will be able to cross this era safely unless you will exercise your free will accordingly until the right time.

Dick Clark (yes, he'll still be alive then) and the Dead (yes, they'll be alive then) will have a big shin dig in NY and they'll lower the ball and nothing will happen and the News Papers will call it a big fizzle.

President Schwarteznegger (yes, he'll be president by then) will say the Mayans were a bunch of Girly Men and it was all a big hoax.

And George Bush will still be looking for WMD in Iraq.

We'll all do a sing a long of TRUCKIN' and wake up the next day and have to go back to work, like or not.

And if you were foolish enough to give your boss a piece of your mind at 5PM the previous day you will have your tale between you legs at 8 am.

The I-Ching is not a calendar. It's an oracle that you consult. It can't predict dates. It gives advice.
The Mayan calendar doesn't say it will be a bad day for humanity. That is human mis-interpretation, from people who don't know a thing about the Long Count and believe all the falsehoods that "the Mayan calendar is ending".

Nothing out of the ordinary will happen when the Mayan calendar runs out. A calendar is an artificial, abstract concept that people developed to keep track of time. A calendar has absolutely no influence upon natural forces. If I were to create a new calendar system that ran out tomorrow, would that cause the destruction of Earth? I don't think so.

A scientific note: I believe that you mean to say the black hole in the center of our galaxy. Don't worry. It's over 25,000 light years away and we are completely safe from it.

There is no "centre of the universe", so there is no black hole at the centre of the universe.
There is a massive black hole at the centre of our galaxy but that is 25 million light years away and not moving towards us. So there is no way that in 5 years it can be between the Earth and the sun.
If you look at the news, every day on Earth is a bad day somewhere - the tsunami and Katrina a few years ago were pretty bad but no one predicted them.

So asking what's really going to happen has no answer. It could be anything, or it could be nothing.

There won't be a black hole between the earth and the sun. And there have been many days that have come and gone where some civilization from the past predicted ultimate doom. So don't worry, nothing will happen.

2007-08-13 21:33:19 · answer #10 · answered by Jon G 4 · 3 0

It will be a day like any other.

If a black hole were going to pass anywhere near our arm of the galaxy, let alone between our earth and the sun, we'd probably know about it by now.

Doomsday predictors love scaring the hell out of everyone, but there have no doubt been hundreds of thousands of these supposed end-of-the world predictions to date, and look, we're still here.

If you really want, grab a six pack, kiss your lover, and enjoy the evening, because if it really does go down, there's not a damned thing you can do about it!
