Obviously people don't want to make themselves look bad on-line so they pick the best answer. But they probably take the other answers into consideration.
Also, some people have lower self-esteem than others. The people with what looks like inflated self-esteem might lap up the good answers to make themselves feel good. Whereas low self-esteem ppl might take the rude answers to heart. (...to put it very simply.)
I think ppl should weigh all answers. And don't base your opinion of yourself on Yahoo Answers.

Hey People even ask for a second opinion about medical
conditions etc. Sometimes we need an others opinion.
If there is a situation where two minds are better than one
then ask away. As you say, sometimes people just want
you to confirm what they think and want to hear. But there
are often good reasons to get another opinion.

No idea. All I can say is that I've never thumbed down a person who took the time to answer one of my questions. Opinions are opinions and even though I may not have agreed, I still appreciate the answer.

It's true really for everyone who ever asks a question though.....
When you ask a question you pretty much know the answer already or you have an expected outcome already in mind of what you want it to be.......
I'd say it's very rare that anyone asks a question and has no clue or expectation of what the reply will be.
Good point though.....

To bounce ones opinion off another person and to hear there criticism of it is the tool one forms and solidifies his own.
