It seems that way, doesn't it? I'm visiting family this week and for that reason, I'm traveling through the midwest, and Jesus Christ, there are hugely fat or downright obese people EVERYWHERE. I'd say at least 70% of the population, if not more, including children. The middle of the country has become a truly frightening place. I can't wait to get back home.

Gypsy, you clearly have never travelled around the midwest and south lately, so let me inform you, in most places I've been through, people are Extremely overweight.
Congratulations on not being one of them. Woopee for you.

By the way, I'm actually not a native New Yorker. I'm from Ohio and you know who I hate? People from Michigan.

GO Buckeyes!!

Stop stereotyping and stop generalizing. I actually know very few genuinely obese Americans, and I'll be damned, David---right here in the middle of the country! (Always hated you p!ssy little NYers, btw, thinking you're better than everyone else.)
At 5'7", I weigh 130 lbs. and I run and work with freeweights daily. My job is also physically demanding. If many Americans are overweight, it's because they're pushing pencils behind their desks for 40+ hours a week...give me the great outdoors.

Eating, sex, entertainment, you name it, it has all become ways to self-medicate, numb ourselves, and otherwise be occupied so as not to feel the tremendous sense of isolation, guilt, sadness, pain, and remorse that are natural by-products of the lifestyles we seek out. Unless each individual takes it upon themselves to rectify their own deep-rooted discontent we will continue to find, use, and exploit our own bodily necessities for escaping from the turmoil within.

No. I think Americans are becoming more health / diet / exercise conscious. Someday we'll be the fittest people on Earth!!

'will' no, 'are', yes.

I would like to rephrase the quote someone made(Clinton?).

"It takes a whole village to raise a child, but it takes only one fat American to feed a village."
