They look fine until they start to turn red, then they begin to rot from the bottom. Any ideas?

When tomatoes get black on the bottom, it's from rot... called Blossom End Rot. It's caused by improper moisture (or too much moisture).

There's not really anything you can do except remove the affected fruits, and toss them out so it doesn't spread to the rest of the bunch. :(

Sorry about the rot!~~ Better luck next time. ^^

Oh, I also found another site that said it might be insuffient calcium... interesting. I didn't know that one. ^^

Lime will strengthen the ph of the soil (makes it much less acid), and provides calcium to the soil. Dolomitic limestone additionally gives you a splash magnesium for a similar funds. organic and organic amendments to the soil, some fertilizers, and purely plant growth over the years tend to acidify the soil. Plan to till some lime into the backyard each and every 2 or 3 years.

Blossom end rot is caused by a calcium deficiency in the soil and you can correct it with a product from your local garden center, but unfortunately the product name escapes me. Someone there should be able to point you in the right direction.
