My spouse and I are having a debate. She is from California, I am from Arkansas. We disagree on how this word is pronounced

"HELENA"

How do you pronounce it. She says I have a southern draw so I don't pronounce words the way they should be pronounced. I say SHE isn't pronouncing it right. How do you pronounce it??

Helen-uh--it is a town in Arkansas, and that is the way the town in Arkansas is pronounced (ask any Arkansan). By the way, I'm originally from Arkansas.

Hell-In-Na. That's how I pronounce it.

I'm from Northern NY. Plus I work at a tourist attraction, so I have an accents thats a mixture of New Yorker, Canadian, and a lot more accents that I pick up.

It is pronounced the way you and your wife sees it fit but I do pronounce it He-Lena if it is a Guy but Hell-ena if it's a Gal who wants to take you for a ride of everything you got (laugh).

I pronounce it tow-MAW-toe. Actually, there are many ways to pronounce it. But, the most beautiful way has been mentioned here several times already, Heh-LAY-nah. Pronounced that way, it's one of the most lyrical woman's name ever, and certainly one of the most feminine. Just one guy's opinion.

LOL! I have heard this pronounced 3 different ways TODAY.

HE-len - ah (like the name Helen - also Helena Montana)

Hell-EEE-nah (like the Greek goddess)

El-EEE-nah (but I think she was just putting on airs).

Oh, and I'm from Chi-CAH-go

I'd say Hel - in - ah.

I've also heard it pronounced with "in" being replaced by "an" sound. Hel - an - ah.

I'm from Australia.
