My sister just gave birth to her first baby (daughter) on Saturday night via a cesarean section. She was told by the doctors almost 12 hours later that the baby sustained a fracture in her leg and she was rushed to the childrens hosp immediately where they are doing additional testing for any signs of brittle bone disease. Needless to say my sister's a wreck and no one is giving us a straight answer as to how this happened. I somewhat understand if she gave birth naturally but a c-section? Has this ever happened to anyone else??

I hadn't heard that before. Our son broke his collar bone coming out- vaginally. I didn't realize it at first- the doctors told me. He was 9 lbs.

I am praying it is not brittle bone disease!

Your nephew and family is in my prayers!

do you think it is easy for a doctor to cut someone open and pull a living moving slippery bloody wet baby out? do you have proof that these injuries were not sustained before birth? calves and human infants are not built the same, when a human baby is born the bones are basically like thick cartilage, the bones have not even hardened yet. when a child is still in the womb there are many things that can happen to them, they can get their extremities caught on the mother's ribs or wose, through the ribs. they can even get hit on the mothers hip bones depending on how they are turned. just be glad your baby was born with no major birth defects, the arm and scrotum will heal, it could always be worse.

That doesnt sound right to me... If I were your sister I would demand a new doctor for the baby, maybe they would be more honest with you. I had a c section and my baby didnt have anything like that a wrong with her and she was 21 inches and was 9 pounds... so she was a big girl.. . I personally have never heard anything like that happening.. But I wish you and your sister the best of luck!

It can happen. Theyre very rough with babies during csections, especially some doctors. Sometimes limbs get caught in the birth canal as theyre wrenching them out.

Babies born vaginally can be born with broken clavicals.

Broken bones in babies is not common, as their bones are so rubbery, so its common to do tests on those who do suffer breaks for brittle bone.

I wouldnt worry until they give you something to worry about. Its hard, i know.

Good luck.
