About five years ago, the public broadcasting station in Denver CO presented a series from either Britain, Australia or possibly New Zealand about an underground/alternate reality.

The protagonist searched the underground world for a dagger or other object. The action took place in dark tunnels and existed outside of 'normal' life. I remember one scene with the protagonist visiting an underground bazaar searching for a key element of his quest. The series ran for about eight shows, and the protagonist resolved his quest, but the ending was left open to further development.

I apologize for the lack of detail, it was some time ago and I'm gettin' older, memory fades. I cannot name any principal players, and doubt I would recognize their names. I tried contacting the PBS station, but they never responded. Any help in locating the name of this series would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your consideration.

Was it Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, its about an ordinary Londoner who helps a woman named Door get home to London Below which is situated in the London Underground. They have to find an angel named Islington to help the protaganist a guy called Richard return Above. It featured characters like the Angel Islington, Old Bailey, the Earl of Earl's Court and the Abbot of Black Friars, all of which are famous places in London.

It is obviously an English story written by Neil Gaiman, who is well known for his alternative outlook. It was made mid 90s I think and shown on BBC 2 I think.

I hope this helps and if its not the show you are looking for its still worth checking out!
