Don't worry, at least you won't run the risk of being as burnt out during first year Uni, as many of the students who jump right in. You'll also be more determined to work harder during Uni as you've had a big break already (something I wish I've had).
If you can't travel to another country, go and see that places you haven't been to in years. Go to the Zoo, Aquarium, Museum, Art Gallery, the touristy sight-seeing places, there's a reason people fly halfway across the globe to see these places. Heck, I hope to get over there one day and see them.

Personally, I don't think you can ever "waste" any time. You always learn something. You only think you wasted it if you box your life into something it is "supposed" to be. Who knows? Maybe if you had gone to university earlier you would have been hit by a bus. Maybe since you're going now your timing will coincide perfectly with the love of your life attending the same class you are. I think everything is as it should be and to regret or obsess over what should have been is a waste. Think of it like this: you spent that year doing exactly what you should have done so that the rest of your life could be as it should be. Congratulations! It's all a matter of perspective, my friend.

Goodness, if you're going to a uni, then FORGET about the last year. Just don't blow your education. Learn from last year, and make up for it by developing a strong work ethic in school. But have fun too.
I called myself wasting a year and a half when I kept changing majors. It took me 5 1/2 years to graduate, but at least I ended up picking the right major, and now I love my career.
You're apparently fairly young, so as long as you have focus while in school and choose the right career, your regret over the past year will certainly go away.

You haven't wasted your time. The mere fact that you have learned the need to do things and not let time pass by is a lesson that may take some other people a lifetime to learn.
Stop looking backwards and work on the future. Whatever the reasons for what has happened, they are irrelevant as you need to act on where you are and what you are now. Step up, go to college and enjoy the rest of your life.
What is gone, is gone.

Well I think you could have at least volunteered somewhere, but anywho, what DID you do? What did you think about. Write about it. Part of living is discovering ourselves. Time is never really wasted. It's just the way you view it that makes it seem that way. You did not do what you think you should have done. But go back and look again at how you really spent your time and think about how you grew as a person on the inside. Start a personal Journal. You did not waste any time.

You shouldn't feel bad because almost everybody had gone through the same thing. The best you could do is learn from your mistakes. So, keep trying and don't give up! I personally find my job in monsterjob.com. Is a great website. You should give it a look. Good luck :) !

I wish I could have loafed around for a year and just relaxed.
Anyway, it's quite possible and very probable that you couldn't find a job because you subconsciously didn't want to. Take your year of relaxing a gem that most people don't get.

Put it behind you and just look forward. We all look back and see the time we lost, but what are you going to do about it now? Dwell on it? Bad idea. Just start fresh and make things your own. Consider it a lesson learned.
