I was charged $200.00 for a 4 minute visit at the eye doctor's office and his advise was "hold a warm towel on the sty" That's it. They tried to bill insurance, it was refused. Who do I write to?

I was already seen by another doctor who did a full exam. I made them aware of this and was told the visit would be $45.00. The first doc did a full exam with dilation and a chart etc...full exam. It wasn't pressing enough to go to a hospital, just needed to make sure it wasn't metal from work, and it wasn't.

To insurance, to the state attorney general (they have a medical fraud office), the Better Business Bureau and to the American Medical Association.

Except you still might have to pay it.

You are aware that had you gone to a regular physician or emergency room for the sty, that the bill would've been higher than $200.00, you would've waited for 30 minutes or more to be seen, the visit would've lasted for probably the same 4 minutes and you would've been given the same medical advice, warm towel to the affected area? I agree with everyone else about reporting to the insurance commissioner and the BBB, however, I'm not sure that you will see a remedy. Good Luck, I hope things work out for you!

So then I assume that where you went or whether you were overcharged is not an issue here. ...Then what you need to do is contact the attorney general for your state and the commissioner. My insurance does not pay for office visits and perhaps yours do not either. I had a doctor try this also and after it was submitted to them against my advise it was to late to adjust it. There are good suggestions here. Good Luck

grace95838 is right. I don't think you were overcharged. Your insurance company doesn't want to pay because you didn't need to see any doctor for this. If you had called the eye doctor, any hospital or the insurance company instead of going in, you would have received the same advice FREE.

contact the consumer protection agency in your state and file a complaint against both the dr. and the insurance co. then contact the better business berau about the dr, and file a complaint against the dr. office and dr. this WILL get results!
