because without honesty, there can not be trust. Without trust, there can be no meaningful relationship. Without a meaningful relationship, you definitely will not have a good relationship.

Honesty in a relationship is important to maintain a mutual bond of trust. Without trust there is no relationship. But it is more important to be honest to yourself. It being completely honest will crush or deeply hurt the other person (and you know it), sometimes a little white lie is the better way to go. There is no place for brutal honesty in a relationship either.

Being honest provides predictability. Lies are confusing, at the very least.

Whatever happened - happened, it is the one and only event that took place. Nobody's confused.
However, if the truth is distorted, you could have multiple versions none of which is true. That creates a lot of confusion.

Some lies are hurtful, not only confusing. Some create unfairness. Say if you broke a window but then you went and told on your younger brother as if he did it he migh get unfair punishment.

That is definitely not a philosophy question. Philosophy questions are those that ask into the nature of reality (metaphysics), the nature of knowledge (epistemology), the nature of language (phil. of language), logic (logic), the nature of science (phil. of science), the nature of religion (phil. of religion), the nature of action (phil. of action), the nature of mind (phil. of mind), the nature of right action (ethics), and the nature of beauty (aesthetics).

I think that "good" involves a sense of trust, because in this case the word seems to indicate "well working" or "functional." A relationship does not work very well without trust. Honesty facilitates trust BIG TIME.

in a relationship honesty is not improtant to them. It's "trust". Honesty doesn't build anything if you want to truth then the truth comes out and if you want to keep it to youself go ahad no one is stopping you. Trust is the most important, trust is like a duty you must fullfill.

when people get into a relationship, they see themselves as one person, this isn't particularly true. a relationship is two people figuring each other out and therefore figuring themselves out. honesty is obviously important here, because your not being honest to youself, your "living a lie"!!!
even little white lies are unacceptable, you shouldn't just try make each other feel better with theese little white lies, you should feel confident, loved, etc. anyway. and if a girl ever gives out to you because you didn't lie to make her feel a little confidence, she's living in an illusion, she should be relying on you to give an honest answer, otherwise she just gives you the green light to lie to your heart's content!

If honesty is important in order to have a good relationship. Then, would it also be important to be honest with ones self as well? I believe, if One is honest with him/herself, he/she can be honest in a relationship.

You cannot have a truly close relationship with another person unless you know and understand them, and if they are unwilling to show you their true self through honesty and communcation, the relationship will be very weak.

Without honesty there is no trust. Without trust there's no way to lower your defenses enough to become truly close.
