This not about who invented it.....it's about who took it to the next level

Deep Purple was the birth of metal. Every metal artist owns its glory to Deep Purple. They came out with the arguably greatest metal song of all time, Smoke on the Water.Which was an unforgettable riff that every guitarist has played.Other song that impacted metal music are, Highway Star, Hush, and Woman From Tokyo.
Iron Maiden was the best band of the 2nd British Invasion. They came up with some shredding guitars that the world had never seen.Steve Harris came in with some booming bass and Dickenson with awesome vocals.

Metallica really revolutionized the heavy metal scene when they came out wearing just jeans and t-shirts. they didn't really care about how they looked, they just served metal up your ass!! and when they did ..and justice for all, the metal scene in america hadnt really thought that a 7 to 10 minute song could sell. and here in 2007 Metallica is still going strong and pushing metal farther by being inspirations to most new metal bands. so in my opinion it was Metallica who made metal go up the level. however the bands that sprouted in that era of metal did help a lot as well.

Metallica/Megadeath- Changed Metal more than any music Ozzy has done since leaving Black Sabbath. (Face it Ozzfest made a bigger difference than most of his 1980+ music) Speed was the need, they were the answer.

Oh, and Motorhead, because everyone knows Lemy is God.

It was an evolving process, many contributed.
Start with the Rolling Stones. The ideas had to come from somewhere.
KISS was innovative.
Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper (long career there), and of course we can't leave off Ozzy.

Excuse me, I need to go throw up now.....
