the sound driver might have been deleted.

if you know when this happened, or you know when it was working fine then use system restore. i used it the other day when i accidentally deleted my wireless inrternet driver on my laptop. All you have to do is go to start - all programs - accessories - system tools, and it will say "system restore". Just hit next a few times until you can choose the day from a calendar when you know for sure the sound was working. Also, if this doesnt work, you can "undo" what you did by repeating the steps.

Now, if system restore doesnt work, search the name and model number of your computer, and try and find out what sound driver is used on the particular model. Once you find it, google it and look for downloads.

Worst comes to worst... take it to your local computer store and they will help you, with a steep fee.

Soundcard driver was deleted. If it is still in the recycle bin, try restoring it. If not, you have to reinstall soundcard driver.
