I live out in the woods (very rural area) and I've noticed at night lately there often have been several large, bipedal creatures that won't come near light, lurking in the woods. It sounds very odd but it's true. They're not dogs, wolves, or bears, and not people. They scare me to death and I have installed several yard lights all around my property, and I can't let my dog out at night anymore. I called my local authorities and they came out to investigate, found nothing and simply thought I was seeing things. I'm wondering if anyone else has this sort of problem. The things, whatever they are, are about 4 feet tall, with claws apparently, are dark in color, with eyes that seem to glow, and I think they've been at the local wildlife, as I haven't seen any squirrels or chipmunks anywhere near my house anymore. I'm really pretty scared..they almost seem like I've heard demons portrayed. I'm not losing my mind, I swear, I just can't be the only person who has encountered these creatures.

First off, it's no 'snipe'. Whenever I let my dog out at night, I'd always have him on a leash. The first night the things appeared (3 or 4 of them), he went crazy trying to chase them off into the woods, almost pulling me. But they didn't move, which is what initially terrified me. I only saw them after my dog did, which is no surprise. I had to bring Bosco (my dog) inside immediately, and for the rest of the night he alternated between barking and whining, whilst I peered out the windows. I've been outside in the daytime right near the edge of the woods, and the tracks look animal-like. There are very sharp indentations with four appendages, a lot like a dog or cat's, and unlike a human. I take it from a lot of the responses that many don't believe me and I expected that. As for those who have offered helpful suggestions, thanks.. I know this is very odd but as I said, I was hoping I'm not alone. I live in rural northern Michigan. I've never owned a gun, and am not a hunter.

I agree with putting up a fence. I would really like to see these creatures. You dont by chance have any pics do you? Thats pretty creepy, watch you and your dogs back until you get that fence! Best of luck to you...

I believe these are Miniature Snipes. Full grown ones are about 4' tall. They are usually harmless to humans, but don't look them in the eyes or shine bright lights at them!! This may be construed as an act of agression and the little beasts will charge you. They have extremely sharp teeth and 5" claws. Best way to get rid of them is to leave out a few Tuna sandwiches on Whole Wheat Bread and a dill pickle. They cannot stand them and they will move on eventually - Good Luck

I live by 15 acres of woods and we get tracks that are very unsual so what we do is get some1 that owns a gun or rent or barrow one and shoot 5 blanks in the air...they usually go away for a little while or for good.a eletric fence wont help at all because if the have alot of fat or fur they will eventually get through when we had horses they just rolled over the fence and the shocking didnt hurt and your dog might go near or touch the fence when you have it off the leash so i would fire a few rounds or blanks and spray your yard with pest control spray it will not kill or hamr them but the odor will get rid of them

Sounds mysterious. There are quite a few animals that will stand on their hind legs briefly, but very few truly bipedal animals. Can you tell us where you live? Have you found tracks? Whatever they are, I encourage you not to take drastic action as they are probably harmless native wildlife. What happens when you let your dog out? How do you know they have claws? Tell us more, this is interesting.

i would recommend putting up an electric fence. make sure that it's about six feet tall so it cant get over, this way, you can let your dog out and it can't get to either of you. remember that it is still a living creature, and it needs things to eat. so you also might want to try putting some source of food on the other side of the woods so it tends to go there more then your side.

A extra applicable geographical region woud help. a million/2 the conflict in fixing flora and fauna mysteries is determining what it won't be able to be. i'm going with Bigfoot for now, yet i'm hoping you get the applicable answer from somebody.

A shotgun and/or rat poison both work equally well. With either, generally you can also find a carcass within a day or two and find out what it is that's been watching you!

Why not take pictures or plaster casts of some tracks and get them identified? You can find websites and books that identify tracks.
