Sorry I repeated my reasons in my other answers, (paragraphs).
So take a look on my other answers or look at the source.

Now, in college (I'm only a high school student) I'm pretty sure you'll be moving around a lot. Taking notes w/ your computer in classes, going to the library/local cafe to do some work, and you don't want to be restricted. So I say a laptop will be GREAT in college. Depending on what you are majoring or what work you'll be doing I don't think you need some Alienware power or anything.

Best laptop brand I have to say is APPLE!!
Sure it's a bit expensive, wait. No it's not. In 3rd grade most teachers will teach you lbs/$, would you buy a 1 pack Dell for 1$ or 6 pack Mac for 2$? (Not cigarettes, just referencing to drinks like Coca Cola or Pepsi, Sprite etc.. lol)

With Apple you can get security feature that is amazing (LoJack, http://www.macrumors.com )
you'll get the ability to make videos without extra tools (built in movie maker, isight camera, and microphone). The operating system won't get any virus that interrupts your flow of work or fun. No instability (IE Vista) which interrupts your work, or daily routines of scanning for viruses, defragging your hard drive, and crap. That is why Linux and Mac OS X (UNIX) spanks Windows.

To the girl above. PC, as in the Windows operating systems will get viruses. It doesn't matter because of brand, design, who sells it, or anything. Windows will be windows, it will be crap. Most school stores will sell student version of MS Word for 74$ or even free. And iWork '08 (esp. Keynote) is amazing. No other PC brand has given kids or students the ability to express their opinions and creativity as much as Apple has done. iLife '08 comes with every Mac, pre-installed, software that only cost 80$ (separately) is very comparable to professional software.

Trust me, most users that gone from Windows to Mac (myself) will not go back unless their work forces them because of age old Mac myths. It's common sense.
Btw if you are a college student or a student in higher education you can get a free iPod nano (after rebate) with your purchase.

Toshiba or HP hands down. Don't let anyone sucker you into an Apple -- they make good iPods but their computers suck!
