41 HR's in 2004, 47 HR's in 2005, 54 HR's in 2006 and this year he has ONLY 19. What's up with that? He appears to be the same size as he was, so I don't feel like he's been on roids or anything. Is he just slumping this year? The Red Sox don't pay him 10 million a season to hit 19 HR's.

Cause he's a fat-body. Or his body is ruined from cheesburgers and beer or roids, you take your pick? Big Papi and been Big Joki this year. The Sox aren't paying this guy 10 million to hit 19 dingers. This time last year he had like 40.

When you get paid that much, you don't go through slumps. At least I can say this about GAY-ROD, he has lived up to the money that the Rangers and Yankees have paid him. He has had 7 dynamite seasons since he got the 10 year 252 million contract.

He's had knee problems for most of the year, so he's not able to drive the ball as far. Most of his strength comes from his legs and generates a strong swing.
Plus, pitchers have figured out his dead-pull swing; crowding him well inside and leaving nothing over the plate.

He's been hitting around .300, so obviously pitchers don't have him completely figured out. He just can't push off as well as normal because of the injured knee. David will get surgery at the end of the season, but he's playing through it for now. Give the man credit -- he could have walked away from the team and gone under the knife.

he is hurt man.. he has a leg injury... he is going to get it worked on in the off season.
I think his vision is going too.. he is taking a lot more pitches than he used to.
