Please can someone help me????

my 7 year old daughter had some blood tests taken and the surgery called and requested that we go back in for some more.

while there, i was informed that her originalo set showed that she had a low white cell count. I enquired as to what this meant and was told that everything would be explained after the next results were back and shouldn't worry.

I am a mother of course i am worried.

i requested the first set as my daughter has little lumos in her neck that have grown over a period of time from the size of a pea to the size of a 10p coin. I was told these were swollen lymph glands, again nothing to worry about. But she has also been very tired and pale recently.

Can anyone help me understand what any of this means???? any help will be gratefully appreciated.

You must be very frantic over all this, but you must remember to keep your head - stressing yourself out is not going to help your daughter or improve the situation, make sure you are taking care of yourself so you can tackle this situation.
this is not the wisest thing for you to do, I know you want answers, but you need those answers from your doctor, not from a place like this, there are many reasons for why she may have a low white cell count, and those reasons could cause you to stress over something which may not be what is wrong...I can tell you that usually, low white cells is not a good thing, but can be corrected - but they must find out why it is low so they can treat the problem effectively.

My suggestion to you is to cancel this question as soon as you can and let the proffessionals do their job and advise you as per their processes - YOU DO NOT NEED THE ADDED WORRY OF...WHAT IF'S ....go spend some quality time with your daughter, and put this worry right out of your head until the day you are to be advised by your doctor, and do whatever it takes to relax and take good care of yourself.
Leave tomorrow's worries to tomorrow, good luck whatever you decide to do, and I really hope and pray for you that things will go okay for your daughter, and that you will have what it takes to cope with this...God bless, and protect your home and family...take care now

Usually a low WBC count means that her body is not as able to fight infection. If her WBC count was increased, it would mean her body was fighting some sort of infection. Unfortunately, this may end up being something. It sounds like she is neutropenic (unable to fight infection well). However, her body may have just had an episode and may have built back up by the next set of labs. The lymph nodes can be a sign of so many different things. They can indicate an infection, but the low count indicates that it's probably not the case. I would keep asking questions until the answer you. Be proactive for your child. If you don't like the answer you get, go somewhere else. I work at children's hospital and I see these kids every day. Remember, you have to be strong for your child. Don't hide things from her, but at the same time don't upset her with the possibilities. Another this that I might suggest it a biopsy of her lymph nodes, which should tell you if it's something like lyphadnapthy or even cancer of the lymph nodes. You can find quite a bit of into on google. Do your own research, like I said be proactive for your child. Be prepared, but don't jump to conclusions just yet and upset yourself and your family.
Hope all goes well and it turns out to be nothing

You are more susceptible to an infection when the white blood cell count is down.
