As global warming sets in, the polar ice cap is receding fast. Scientists reckon that by the end of the century the entire Arctic Ocean could be open water for the first time since prehistory, uncovering potentially vast reservoirs of oil and natural gas—perhaps a quarter of the world's undiscovered reserves, according to a study from the U.S. Geological Survey.

Except Alaska. Seems Caribou must be more vicious than we have been told as Alaska is already ours.

Now let me figure this twisted logic if I can. We won't drill in Alaska because of Caribou but we will go half way around the world and spend trillions of dollars for the same oil we could have gotten by inconveniencing a few caribou in our own country? And this makes sense to you?

the russians put a flag at the bottom of the sea and the canadian prime minister said it was as significant as putting a bedsheet there and that it was like 18th century politics, ps there is no oil in the spot they put the flag on, the alberta tar sands (much further south) has the greatest oil reserve in the world second only to saudi arabia

If the ice caps melt, neither we nor any other country will have any ports in which to offload the oil cargo. They will all be flooded. Perhaps we could quickly build ports in the Poconos and the Sierras

If it were left up to the left wing liberal loonies in the US, the oil fields would never get developed. If Russia takes charge and develops the fields, they will get the oil to market within a few years.
In the US, oil companies would be fighting tree huggers, enviro wienies, anti-Americans for years.
