That was Royals superstar George Brett, in 1983.

Pine tar is a sticky substance that helps the batter keep a firm grip on the bat. It is permitted to be used on the handle area of the bat; Brett had used the bat and enough tar that it had accreted well up past the handle and onto the barrel. The umpires ruled that made the bat illegal, and the entire event got dumber from there.

Anyway... pine tar is a stickum. If you ever notice some players' batting helmets look smoky or burned, that's more pine tar accumulating.

it is really sticky stuff that you put on the handle of the bat for grip. it can only be from the bottom of the bat 8.5 inches up. it doesnt help hit the ball but if the ball is hit on it it can spin weird and be hard to field

PineTAR is a TAR that is usally put on the helmet, for PLAYERS like Vlad Gurrero who don't used gloves. IT helps grip the bat for a better Swing.

Pinetar is basically sap from a pine tree. It keep the bat from slipping in your hands when you swing.
