Books: Little Critter Books by Mercer Mayer, Where the Wild Things Are, Some Dr. Seuss, Little Black Sambo, Ferdinand...
Kids are going to like spending time reading or hearing stories with you. The key is to make the stories fun. Don't be self-conscious, do a lion's voice for a lion or a mama voice for mama bear. Make reading fun and they'll continue to enjoy it as they get older.

my nieces and nephews like made up stories about thing with their names in it. they also like to hear stories from when their mom and i were growing up.
