I think peace is possible, but first the people have to be willing to talk seriously. At the present time, the leadership of the various factions in Iraq have not yet been convinced that they are better off negotiating than fighting. It took almost 30 years for the factions in Northern Ireland to come to the table. I hope it does not take as long in Iraq, but there is very little reason presently for any optimism.

yes, peace is possible in Iraq. Democracy is impossible, however. Peace will come with a strong military leader who forces the people to shut up, sit down, and stop killing each other.

well, the surge has slowed down the violence, so it is working, but it will be a long hard road. americans have no patience, which i can understand since its americans that are dying over there. i want to bring the troops home right now myself. i don't know if its worth the cost.
