If you were an NHL general manager...?

What would you trade for these players?

1. Sidney Crosby
2. Alex Ovechkin
3. Roberto Luongo
4. Henrik Zetterberg
5. Anze Kopitar

This is a difficult question to answer because you have not told me anything about MY team
1. Am I based in Nashville? or Toronto?
2. Is my team sucking wind like Columbus? Or does my team do fairly well year in and year out but just need that missing piece.

1a. If I'm in Nashville............I'll never have Crosby or Ovechkin because fiscally it would ruin the team
1b. If I'm in Toronto, I wait until the superstars I want are available as RFAs/UFAs and tender an offer
2a). If I'm sucking wind like Columbus year in and year out.....I can offer high draft picks to players which really aren't going to help me because the rest of the team sucks
2b) If I'm simply looking for that missing piece, I'm not going to be flush with high draft picks that would allow me to trade

So, who would I try and pick up over Zetterberg and Kopitar? Well, the following is a list of players I think will be making headlines in the NHL and are young enough for my team to benefit

1. Ryan Getzlaf, size and skill, and only 22 yrs old
2. Corey Perry, size and skill, and only 22 yrs old...and a 2-time OHL scoring champ. It took a few years before Jason Allison became a 90pt guy and I see that in Perry too
3. Ilya Kovalchuk, 3 years younger than Zetterberg and already a better player
4. Marian Hossa, a year older than Zetterberg and a better player
5. Patrice Bergeron, too bad he plays on Boston
6. Tim Connolly, a year younger than Zetterberg, and EVERYBODY thinks this guy has talent, hopefully we will see it soon
7. Thomas Vanek, 23 years old and definitely the real deal
8. Eric Staal, the future is still to come for a guy who already has a 100 pt season
9. Jonathan Toews, he proved he's a star at the 2007 World Championships. This boy can play with the men!
10. Rick Nash, when he plays with Joe Thornton, it's easy to picture this guy being a star anywhere but Columbus
11. Nikolai Zherdev, an amazing load of skill and talent
12. Paul Stastny, every inch his father's son.........and his father (and uncles) were amazing to watch
13. Nathan Horton, 22 and can only get better
14. Alexander Frolov, the best of the Cammalleri, Kopitar, Dustin Brown and Kopitar foursome.
15. Marian Gaborik, 2 years younger than Zetterberg and considered by many scout and GMs to be among the 10 best players in the game today
16. Alexander Radulov, this is the one guy that should wow Nashville fans in the coming years
17. Zachary Parise, this guy will only get better
18. Petr Prucha. Needs more playing time to develop his immense talent
19. Dany Heatley. Wow!
20. Jason Spezza. This guy is going to be a star.
21. Joffrey Lupul, showed flashes of brilliance as a Mighty Duck, will hopefully get a chance to regain that form as a Flyer
22. Colby Armstrong. Not afraid to muck it up and showed in 2005-2006 how his scoring totals would look if he plays with talent
23. Evgeni Malkin. Amazing talent
24. Joseph Thornton. Only a year older than Zetterberg, but light years ahead of him in talent and skill. Probably the best all-round player in the game today
25. Bradley Richards - already regarded as one of the games finest players
26. Vincent Lecavalier - has proven he belongs in the top ranks with both his Tampa and international play

Every player on this list is younger than Zetterberg (save Marian Hossa and Joe Thornton) and has more talent, or will be more talented. Any of these players I will take over Zetterberg or Kopitar. There are another 50 whom I would take over Kopitar as well.
