My uncle fell off a 40ft. roof 3 days ago and was admitted into a hospital because he was unconcious and bleeding from his nose. he lost all of his blood from the nose he has 2 have to transfusions before the helicopter left the ground and 4 more once they got there. soon after he was admitted to the doctor told us he broke every single rib, his clavicle bone, craked his skull open and has internal bleeding. now its the third day and they fixed his internal bleeding but now he is in a deep coma and cannot breathe at all on his own. he was breathing on his own but today he stopped and also he has brain tissue coming out of his ears......wow i know its alot but my question is can he survive this and live. the doctor already told us that if he does live he will be severly brain damaged. he will need alot of care. do you think he even has a chance of living? he is a very strong man but still what are the odds? and also if he does make it throught should we keep his alive or let him go

the deep coma is natural with that kind severe injuries-it is a very bad sign that there is brain tissue comming out of him like that -there is always a chance that he will survive -medicine today is pretty advanced and they are working miracles -but only time will tell -if he does survive -he may never wake out of his coma -there are many cases where people have come out of the coma -and gone on to live --but the quality of life is the question-he must be a very strong man to have survived this kind of fall-and the fact that he was breathing on his own even for a few minutes -is a good sign -it means there is still brain function-my heart goes out to you and your family -and to your uncle as well

As another poster said, only time will tell, I'm so sorry.

Be sure to keep positive thoughts (I know it's hard), and I've heard that talking to a person while they're in a coma helps, and they can hear you.

If you are religious, you could pray.

Regardless, keep positive thoughts! My cousin was near death several times, but we never gave up on him, and years later he is fine, married, and playing video games like no other! LOL

sweethart, i'm ery sorry to hear of your uncles accident. i'm sorry, there is no way for us to know what will happen with him. at the moment, it doesn't sound good but, anything can happen. there is a lot to consider here. i had a friend in a similar situation and he got through it fine but no two cases are exactly the same. pray that he'll be alright and that if he's not, you'll find the strength to deal with whatever happens. god bless

He may live physically but not a quality life. What you need to figure out is would he wanted to live that life and what will it do to every one else future... Yes of course everyone RIGHT now is going to be sad but how will everyone feel about visiting him in a nursing home later on... Pray about it...
