The original "The Haunting" with Julie Harris. It is filmed in black and white. And while it isn't the special effects eye candy that the remake is, it has some great moments, that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand at attention.

Film noir meets psychological horror.

The most thought provoking film I have seen has been "Schindler's List." The images from that movie stayed with me for a long, long time.

One of the best films I ever saw went straight to DVD; it was called;
"Once were warriors"
It had a mainly Maori cast, and focused on the subject of the high levels of alcoholism and child abuse in a modern Maori community.

"The Green Mile"
is also one one those that stick in your mind forever
