First, this is not about if the Blue Jays should have been suspended too.

Torre apparently told Clemens to hit Alex Rios, and he only got a one-game suspension. He should have gotten for the same or a higher number of games.

If Clemens ignored the order, his punishment by the team would have been worse. It's like giving a killer a worse sentence than the intellectual author of the crime.

First of all, there is no way to prove that Torre told Clemens to do it, so he should be innocent until proven guilty which is never. Also, Clemens threw the pitch so the reaction should be harsher. Finally, Clemens starts once every 5 games, so a 5 game suspension is equivalent to Torre's one game suspension

To start with I don't think Torre needed to tell Clemens to hit Rios. Clemens has been around a while and knows what he's doing out there on the mound. But either way, it only amounts to a one game suspension for both of them because Clemens only pitches every 5 days. If it had been a reliever that hit Rios, I would expect only a one or two game suspension for that player.

Joe Torre have been given the common suspension; one interest for the chief. the explanation that Clemens gets a 5 interest suspension is to substantiate that he misses one commence; if the suspension grew to become into in straight forward terms 3 video games, then Clemens does not omit any starts, and he fairly does not be penalized. So, the two suspensions are honest.

who really cares? He has enough money in the bank to cope with the suspension and he is only in the rotation once a week anyways. What was really suspended was Steinbrenner's little itty bitty dying brain when he signed Clemens to that ridiculous contract. Clemens has a high ERA and a losing record. What a deal.

Clemens will only miss one start over the 5 games/days. Same diff then, eh.

Honestly, who cares? It's much ado about nothing.

it is the same effect. if clemens got suspended for 1-game, he would still be pitching in five days. this five day suspension blocks only start for clemens, while torre's one game suspension blocks one game for him too

A five-game suspension is normal for a starting pitcher in this case, since it assures he will miss at least one start. Since most teams use a five-man rotation, if a pitcher were suspended for only one game, it would not be much of a punishment.

The league can't fine someone on suspicion of giving an order. They fined him because he is the Manager and it happened on his watch. Clemens got 5 games because he threw the ball. That is the way it is. Go Yanks!
