I used to own a Gateway. I loved the laptop, but it came with some issues when I first got it. They offered me great support, even when my warranty expired. However, my laptop died after a year and a half (it was a motherboard problem and they told me it would cost $225 to replace it and I said no thanks).
That said, I took a look at the specs and I have to say no
You see, there are quite a lot of problems with this laptop:
Intel® 943GML
Intel® Celeron® M Processor 520
This chip is very outdated, It's at least a year and a half old.
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
If you want to play games, this is a terrible graphics card. Anybody who intends to play games from the year 2004 and beyond cannot buy integrated graphics. They are bad quality and it's better to get a dedicated NVIDIA (not ATI) graphics card.

Mark my words, Windows Vista runs REALLY SLOW if you only have 1gigabyte of RAM. On my new laptop I chose Windows XP and with 1GB RAM, it runs beautifully.

I recommend the new Core2Duo chips with Santa Rosa (those with 800 FSB). That means you have two processors in one chip (The ML6227b only has one processor and is definately inferior to the current chips).

I am currently using a Dell Vostro 15.4", 1.6ghz core2duo, 1GB memory, 120GB hard drive, 8X dual layer DVD Burner, and a 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS graphics card
for $599USD (297 pounds)
So to make this short, your laptop is not a good buy.

The M6850-FX is definitely a stable deal, and from each and every thing I even have examine it has won great comments. observe that that's heavy, runs warm and would not provide extremely some battery existence. yet once you're searching for a semi-transportable gaming computing gadget, that's certainly a good purchase. so some distance as laptop manufacturers flow, human beings tend to concentration too lots on it. in certainty that Dell, Gateway, HP, Toshiba, and so on. all purchase the comparable good purchase-barrel aspects from Malaysia and Taiwan besides. in case you like the case, specs, and get a good guarantee, choose for it!

I like Gateway's support, contrary to popular belief (not about me liking it...about it sucking). I have had no experience with that particular laptop but the one I do have from Gateway is reliable and the support that I have needed for it has been awesome.

don't think i'd be buying a Gateway laptop.

Can't say that I'm so sure the company will exist two years down the road when you might need service or parts.
