well there is no official answer to this question, there are many variables. For example do you consider getting to the center just hitting the tootsie roll center or having it completely uncovered? Also depending on how you lick it. If you take biiiiig licks you are likely to get there in less licks... My friend tried this once and uncovered one whole side in 268 licks. The best way to find an answer? Grab a tootsie pop and start licking!

Ok the world may never know... but in my "Why Do Pirates Love Parrots? And Other Imponderables" book it says that Purdue University and U of Michigan did a study and found that the average was about 252 licks per pop, but at the Mississippi School for Math and Science the average for girls was about 1,656, but guys averaged 1,239 licks. And students at Swathmore School got only 144 average licks. The world will truly never know.

Don't know and I'm not going to try counting, as I'll get tired of counting each lick and would much rather just shove the whole sucker into my mouth and suck on it. Yep.
