I am a Jr. I never really think about it much. Its not a big deal, but it does get annoying when we are trying to sort through mail, or when someone calls the house phone.
All in all, its no big deal, but it works out better if you go by a nickname so that you don't get confused.

My father swore that his first son should bear his name!
But when I was born, we became a twin boys!!
The man was confused. I came first and sought independence so he named me the Freeman! while my bro shot out like an Iroko tree so he got named the Onlyman!
The one that follows us is a boy so got to bear my father's name!
I often confused who the mail is meant for when they came cos he had no Jr. attached to his name.
But I am a picturesque replica of my father, and as such, i am his favorite!!

My newphew is a "IV". He never uses the number aspect of his name. It's either "little Josh" or "Joshie", or just "josh" if his dad isn't in the same room.
I have a couple of buddies that traditionally use their maternal grandfather's last name as their middle name. They have carried on the tradition to their kids. It seems to be common in the Irish, Scottish, and Spanish culture. I think it's pretty cool.

I was named after my father and youngest uncle. I went by my middle name until I joined the Navy then my last name was chosen for my nick name...Andy. Anyone south of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel calls me by my first name or nick name. Everyone north of the CBBT calls me by my middle name.

I'm first born and was NOT named after my father. My brother, 2nd born, received it. He's the 3rd.

this guy named craig I was in class w/ my first semester was in my class this past semester. I said 'hi craig' and he smiled at me and told me he changed his name legally to Jacob - NO LIE. He chose the name Jacob b/c it's his mom's dad's name.... He said he changed it b/c he always had a bad relationship with his father growing up and hated everytime he had to say his name, he would think of him.....so there's one story, lol.

what an interesting question.
I wonder if people dont really enjoy it yet they feel obligated to name their son after them....
If you named a female after her mother, is she a Jr. and 3rd.... and so on?

I was a "first born" ... and I was NOT named after my father.
I was given a variation of my grandfather's name,
which I have always thought was kind of a neat remembrance. :)
