You require a modem if this is in a house, apartment, condo, etc.

DSL, or High Speed Modem; usually supplied buy your Internet Sevice Provider (ISP).

If you are asking about a residential setup, skip the next paragraph.

Skip this paragraph if you are asking about a residential setup. If you are at a place of business there should be a LAN connection and a LAN) cable with RJ-45 connectors at each end. This has 8-wire connectors at either end (Looks similar to a telephone cable but thicker and the ends are largerer). It connects from LAN RJ-45 Jack to your computer. You may have to call the IT department to set you up.

If you have one computer and a high speed modem.

You will have one telephone cable with RJ-11 connectors at each end. This has small 4-wire connectors at either end (Looks similar to the other cable but thinner and the ends are smaller). It connects from your telephone wall jack to the modem.

You will have one network (LAN) cable with RJ-45 connectors at each end. This has 8-wire connectors at either end (Looks similar to the telephone cable but thicker and the ends are largerer). It connects from your modem to your computer.

Good Luck.

If you have only 1 computer requiring only 1 internet connection, then you only require 1 cable from your computer.

If you have a cable modem or dsl model (high speed internet), there will be a cable from your wall to the modem, then another cable from your modem to your computer.
