Religion vs. Intellect seems to play a huge part in the dumbing down of the US. Does the US have anymore credibility left to lose?

FTW - some catnip for you for being thoughtful as usual!

AE - Nobody chooses their sexuality, you simplistic fool. "no use for religion but I am a Christian" ... maybe you should put more thought into what are rather than what you think you are. I bet its 2 separate things.

I don't believe that they are on YA or throughout the USA in general. One only has to look at the magazines of our society to notice how much culture we as a whole have actually lost. Take the National Geographic for an example. Almost 30 years ago when I began a subscription to it, the Natl Geog was a well-written magazine with very little advertising. It used larger words and did *not* dumb down it's articles. Today it has a smaller article and larger print. far more advertising and is written towards a forth grader. It's no longer pleasant to read, so I'm canceling it.
Are heterosexuals well represented? No, no they're not. Yes, we have credibility still to lose but not according to the silly people in Washington. They're like the National Geographic used to be -- once a proud century old magazine and now lost on the newsstand among the swarms of tabloids. It's a crying shame.

No, breeders aren't fairly represented by the weirdos who are closet cases and post here because they have something to hide.

What little credibility our country had was stolen in the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections. Maybe after a fair election, we'll get some of it back.

For what it's worth, I'm Democrat, but I could tolerate Bush I; at least Daddy was a legitimate war hero. Shrub is a draft-dodging, dope-dealing, drunk-driving deadbeat son-of-a-Bush who stole two elections with the help of the Supreme Court, and Florida's Secretary of State, and the help of Diebold vote counting machines.

I guess I need to do some research on that, I have no use for religion but I am a Christian, I am not gay bi or transgendered but I have no problem with you if that is what you are or what you choose...
maybe a better question would be do all white people have blue eyes, seems you put about as much thought into your question... choose a label and a lifestyle and complain if anyone else has an opinion is over played, if you want to play in the street don't blame the car when you get run over...

No. The mature ones will either have something good to contribute to the conversation or don't involve themselves in this forum. The ones that scream around here are the insecure, hyper-religious, or punk teens that think being rude online is funny. Using YA as a yardstick for anyone or any group is pointless.

I think the homophobes do a great job representing themselves obviously they are so loud because they really know that they are attracted to their same sex why else would they be mad or nasty about it? The way to prevent misrepresentation comes from ourselves and our non stereotyping thinking that realizes why certain individuals are so loud and that it is only their opinion. The U.S. has definitely dug itself into a serious hole and it could take a long time to get out of or not. I think before it can get better we have to stop doing the damage, that is why it is taking so long.

I compare homophobes within the heterosexual community to the KKK within the caucasian community. Both of those subsets of human beings are being controlled by fear and hate. I think those people ruled by hate are idiotic appearing. For instance Rev Phelps of Topeka Kansas (my old home state) who pickets the funerals of known gay people and now pickets the grave sides of fallen american soldiers - WHAT an idiot! He makes me want to be not from Kansas, not white and lesbian (oh wait I resemble that last).

You are right about sexuality not being a choice - I am deciding for religious purposes to seek a "straight" lifestyle but that does not stop me from being attracted to women over men. I am finding that I really just prefer being without a relationship and just being single.

I'm so amazed sometimes by the US section in Y'Ans. You seem like two completely different countries. As if the most educated part of Europe is mixed with the less educated part of Iran. I do hope the nice people I see in here take control of the US again soon, as really, that other side is so spooky. Good luck to y'all!

AFAIC, there are 2 varieties of lack of expertise displayed by way of homophobes: discovered lack of expertise and willful lack of expertise. discovered lack of expertise comes from kinfolk historic past, from friends and from regardless of way of existence they grew up in. discovered lack of expertise, besides the undeniable fact that, may well be corrected and altered if the guy in question is keen to open up their concepts to different persons's variations, to understand, understand and consistent with danger even include them. that is why i've got continuously mentioned that in case you scratch a homophobe, you will stumble on a racist besides. maximum people who're homophobes additionally do no longer look after blacks, Jews, or human beings of different races, religions and backgrounds, quite often because of the fact they have under no circumstances extremely time-venerated any. while they stumble on that we are all only human beings, for the main section they are able to adventure a metamorphosis of concepts and heart. Homophobes who're WILLFULLY ignorant, i don't have time for. they have already desperate that their minds isn't replaced for regardless of reason - whether or no longer they are closeted, misguided or shield their hate for financial or political benefit...very corresponding to Sen. Larry Craig and the Phelps kinfolk.

religion is not the only thing responsible for the idiocy of most americans. but you are right, heteros are not being fairly represented by the homophobes here. neither are conservatives. there will always be a small group of people who speak louder than the rest while thinking they are representing the rest. we must never forget that they have the right to free speech as well as ourselves.

It really depends on how one phrases the question. For instance, if one were to ask something like: "my college aged son just came out of the closet. Should I never speak to him again?" Most of the answers will tell you how intolerant you are. I, like you though, wish that U.S. society was more rational and less religious oriented. Really, in terms of rationality (or, as you say, "intellect") the Western Europeans are way ahead of us.
