"Look at me , I am old, but I'm happy"..
..Cat Stevens aka Yusif Islam...
What happened in 1966, youngstah, is that I was 10 years old. But that isn't the good part. The good part is that it was THE BEST year for 60's rock. This was the year that embraced the best of the British Invasion (for which your head should be on a pike) and America was finally countering with something. This was the year I was finally able to start buying 45's...and correct me if I'm wrong by a year.. but this was the year of
Sunny Afternoon.....Kinks
Sunshine Superman...Donovan
Lady Jane/Mother's Little Helper...Stones
Summer in the City.....Lovin' Spoonful
Little Girl....Syndicate of Sound
See See Rider...........The Animals
Cherish..................The Association
Turn Turn Turn........The Byrds
and most importantly
Eleanor Rigby/Yellow Submarine...The Beatles
Your friend Basil should speak up...'66 was great. No one even got murdered ('cept in Nam) The music was outspoken
and cutting edge to fit those restless times. Oh how could I forget
White Rabbit/ Somebody to Love...Jefferson Airplane

August 11th 1966 Lennon apologized for saying that
statement.
September 8th 1966- Star Trek did its first episode.
And so did- Batman, Dark Shadows, Newlywed Game,

Oh dear. I said it was o.k. now that George has passed away. George harrison. You know, when he was in SF that summer, when they were wrapping up their last tour. We talked him into a night on the town. It was supposed to be harmless. But they drive on the wrong side over there in England and we were drunk,we had these girls along, anyway right off the side of the road, into the drink,we all got out except the girls, then we just took off, never reported anything. I don't know how the chicks made out,not well, probably. To this day the matter has never really been aired. Now you bring it up. Basil,we could've sold that story to a tv newsmagazine. What are you thinking of.

One that stands out in my mind is that on Aug.1st of that year, Charles Whitman killed 14 people and wounded 31 others from the observation deck of the University's Main Building of The University of Texas at Austin. Maybe Basil was there. That's something I probably wouldn't want to talk about if I'd witnessed it.

You know that one guy... I can't think of his name but he drove to the park. Some other folks bought some groceries and a lot of kids went to school. Other than that I think someone died.
